RAC Memorial and Tank Museum

Puckapunyal, Victoria

The Royal Australian Armoured Corps Memorial and Army Tank Museum, to give it its full title, is located within the Army complex at Puckapunyal, near Seymour, an hour and half drive north of Melbourne. There you will find a large collection of armoured fighting vehicles from around the world, even a Swedisn S-tank! There are also soft-skinned vehicles on display as well as an Army horse carrying rail carriage and a a collection of firearms and military. At one of my visits the Museum was being used as bit of a holding yard for the then-recently-retired Leopard tanks and there were six or eight of them parked up in the yards. These were, presumably, being decommissioned for distribution to other museums and use as memorials as I have seen a couple pop up around the place. The Museum's collection is a fascinating one with an example of pretty much every type of armoured vehicle that Australian forces has used.
