Bell 206 A17-036 Australian Army Print

Print text reads:

Bell 206B-1 “Kiowa” A17-036

The Australian Army Kiowas are licence-built Bell 206B airframes constructed by Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation and designated 206B-1. They differ from military OH-58 airframes in detail, including a lack of any weapons capability. The CAC built 206B-1 Kiowas are unique in having a double hinged rear port cabin door and a removable door pillar, allowing the loading and carrying of stretcher-bound casualties. In 1971 56 Kiowas were ordered for the Australian defence forces. The first twelve were manufactured in the USA and then re-assembled in Australia with the balance being of Australian construction. Although in common use, the name “Kiowa” does not appear in any official Australian documentation for the aircraft.

Shown here in the early Gloss Olive Drab scheme, A17-036 was stationed at Oakey for many years and featured in a short Defence documentary in the late Seventies called “Rescue 036”.
