Bell 206 A17-055 Australian Army Print

Print text reads:

Bell 206B-1 “Kiowa” A17-055

The Australian Army Kiowas are licence-built Bell 206B airframes constructed by Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation and designated 206B-1. They differ from military OH-58 airframes in detail, including a lack of any weapons capability. The CAC built 206B-1 Kiowas are unique in having a double hinged rear port cabin door and a removable door pillar, allowing the loading and carrying of stretcher-bound casualties. In 1971 56 Kiowas were ordered for the Australian defence forces. The first twelve were manufactured in the USA and then re-assembled in Australia with the balance being of Australian construction. Although in common use, the name “Kiowa” does not appear in any official Australian documentation for the aircraft.

A17-055 is shown here as it appeared on static display at Avalon Airshow in 2011. It carries the standard wrap-around 3-colour camouflage scheme. “055” was built as a civilian 206B in the US with the registration N14820..
